Obsolete Banknotes. Michigan. Saginaw. The Saginaw City Bank, $2.00-A, Dec 1837. Bowen-1. Serial No. 1300 payable to E. Rice and signed in ink by President Norman Little and Cashier Nelson Smith. Design features vignette of Cupid at center with an ornate 2 on either side. On the right are the highly detailed engraving of two c. 1790s silver dollar reverses and on the left a vignette of Proserpina in clouds with TWO above and below. Serial Number, dates etc are all in contemporary ink. Imprint of Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New York. This bank was organized on December 14, 1837 with $50,000 in Capital. The bank closed in 1838.
